Winter is here in Indian Valley and along with it comes another season of Greenville High School basketball. Greenville’s teams have been to several tournaments already this year and have league games starting in January after the New Year.

“Pride in the Past, Faith in the Future”                August 10th – 14th, 2011

Located at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds in East Quincy, Ca

Plumas-Sierra County Fair is one of the last major summer events for our mountain communities. Typical of many other county fairs, we have all sorts of rides, tasty treats, animal and livestock exhibits, art exhibits, and several grandstand events.

Wednesday kicks off the opening of fair, starting at noon and continuing all day kids (12 and under) get in free. Tuesday through Friday the livestock shows are held throughout the morning in the Livestock Area. Sale of meat livestock will happen at the Junior Livestock Auction on Sunday, August 14th in the SPI Pavilion.

This years grandstand events include a FREE Blues and Gospel Concert featuring Darrell Mansfield, Fivacious & The Narrow Gate on Friday, August 12th at 7:15 pm in the Grandstands.  Saturday, August 13th the Bull Ride Smackdown will begin at 8pm in the Horse Arena. Tickets for Bullriding are $10 per person or $25 for a family of 4.

Kid’s Fest – August 5, 2011

August 5th, 2011          Evergreen Market Parking Lot          4 to 7 pm

Local grocer, Evergreen Market, will host Kid’s Fest Friday, August 5th, 2011. This free event will be held in Evergreen Market’s parking lot from 4 to 7 pm and is open to kids of all ages and their families.

Carnival-style event will include face painting, a bounce house, games, and activities sponsored by Indian Valley Parks and Recreation District, Indian Valley Fire Rescue, California Highway Patrol, local 4-H groups, and more.

Evergreen IGA staff will also be giving away two bicycles with helmets and other prizes to children (must be present to win). During the event, shoppers can enter to win the IGA Hometown Fest, Fun & Sun Sweepstakes. Five national winners will receive $1,000 cash and a $1,000 eSportsonline Gift Certificate.

Let’s Play Ball!

July is always a fun time in Indian Valley – just about every weekend there’s something fun to do or see! Wrapping up this July is the last of the local softball tournaments.

This co-ed tournament takes place Saturday, July 30th and Sunday, July 31st at the Greenville Community Park off of Hot Springs Road. The tournament brings in many teams from the local area and also Northern California and is great time to enjoy some ball!

The tournament kicks off Saturday morning at 9 am and will go till around 5 pm that night and will pick up Sunday morning at 8 am. There will be 20+ teams competing this year. Concession will be open both days with Indian Tacos, hamburgers, hot dogs, and more for your enjoyment. For more information or how to enter a team next year call (530) 284-7764.

Summertime is for Camping!

Rocky Point Campground, Lake Almanor

Located in the Sierra Mountains of Northern California, Plumas County has many opportunities for camping – from wooded forest settings to the many alpine lakes there’s plenty of places to go and explore.

The camping season in Plumas County usually begins in mid April and goes till late October depending on the local weather. Most of the campground parks are owned and operated by Pacific Gas & Electric or the U.S. National Forest Service. Camping prices range from $15 to $30 per night and vary by area.
