The smoke from the Chips Fire that started on July 30th in the Chips Creek Basin along Highway 70 (known as “The Canyon” by many locals) has continued to plague residents of the Quincy, Greenville, and Lake Almanor areas. The fire has continued to grow in size and as of 10am on the 8th of August had reached 18,000 acres and is only 10% contained (reported by Plumas County News). For more information about this fire or others burning in the area please visit Plumas County News Online.
The smoke and ash from the fire have been problematic in each of the areas, but thanks to some wind changes this has finally died down leaving some pretty pink and red scenes for us to enjoy. Above is a picture taken from the Canyon Dam Day Use Area at the southern tip of Lake Almanor; the smoke is still visible on the western side of the lake.
